Personal Computer or Politically Correct?

OK, this shows why I hate email forwards. Like the one below, some are funny, but some are just pathetic - like this one:

A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine."House" for instance, is feminine: "la casa.""Pencil," however, is masculine: "el lapiz."A student asked, "What gender is 'computer'?"Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether "computer" should be a masculine or a feminine noun.Ea ch group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that "computer" should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computadora"), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

(THIS GETS BETTER!) *Note from Jon - actually it doesn't*

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ("el computador"), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won.

But clearly, the women shouldn't have! OK, their number 1 is a little bit funny, as is 4 perhaps, but 2&3 make no sense! The guys put together a well reasoned 4 points, and the girls come up with 'they have a lot of data'??? What the hell? And how about 'They are supposed to help you solve problems'? So by the flipside, women are supposed to help you create problems?? Are men committed to one function only?

Half the email forwards of today are filled with politically correct jingoism! The women have to win, even though their arguments sucked. If the men had won, this email would have been termed plain sexist.

The teacher of that hypothetical Spanish class was clearly a woman.

Comments:
agreed. I have long known that if Hallmark (are they present in NZ?) made anti-women greeting cards as they do for men, they would go out of business after millions of people picket outside all of their stores. much sadness indeed.

Oh my gosh. Come back to New Zealand now! We are seriously sadly lacking in clued up chicks like you here!

I so want to see an anti-woman greeting card ... it just has to be at least as clever as the anti-men ones.

I think the men should've won. And the number four on the women's list, honestly, couldn't it go either way?
